So the question is why did Trump seem to trust Morgan for so many years? I’m not even very bright and I knew Morgan was a scumbag years ago...

That's just Donald's survival personality. He learned to give anyone the benefit of the doubt while living and working in NY. He'll try to work with just about anyone (Kim Jong-il) until you double cross him.
