My opinion is that there have always been a large group of average or below average IQ. But in the past, there was not the onslaught of constant media; most people just had a newspaper. Now we have so much information, that we have to cope with how to sort through it all. That is where we see the dumbing down of the intelligent—they teach them to only read “credible” sources, which they deem to be NYT, WaPo, etc. Another problem is with education—many could not go to school, so it was considered a privilege and those students who went worked hard. Then we went to Equal Opportunity—so all kids can go. Now they are trying to make it Equal Outcomes—which is a dumbing down of the intelligent student to the lowest denominator.
