Observation from the show. Pretty much nobody on this series was married. Everyone was single. And, just like Disney, there were really no mothers on the show. It was thought to be family oriented, but there were no intact families with mom, dad, children.
There was Andy, Barney, Aunt Bea, Aunt Bea's friend, of course the girlfriends, Goober, Gomer, Floyd the barber, Howard Sprauge , and his mother who was widowed. There was the deputy who took over when Barney left, he was single. Even the darlings...There was Pa and no Ma. The pretty Darling daughter got married, and then had some voodoo type divorce. The only people I can think of that were married were Otis, the town drunk, and Emmett the fix up shop man.
Were we already being conditioned to accept families that were not intact back then?
Andy should have stayed with Ellie Walker, the lady druggist from the first season.
Totally agree. Or that one girl that was Thelma Lou's cousin, and beat Andy in a shooting competition.
Any of the other girlfriends would have been better than Helen Crump.
Something else has occurred to me lately. Ever notice that every single time a move/tv show has little kids in it, they ALWAYS show the child in bed. ALWAYS. I'm not sure if this is pedo programming or something else. But I do find the constant occurrence (or rather scripted occurrence) to be deeply disturbing.
