Poisoning food? Possibly adding non food ingredients or soylent green? It just seems strange because it isnt enough plants to significantly affect food supply but it is enough to seem like a conspiracy.
It's sick, but my thoughts went to disposal of bodies, yeah, soylent green kinda. Barber of Seville turned his victims into meat pies. I had hot dogs for dinner too. FML
