The author's surname is Melcuk, possibly also Romanized as Melchuk. It sounds Ukrainian and he definitely has a Ukrainian bias towards events.

The author says:

the war concerns the civilized world. This means he considers NATO and the west to be civilized.
Putin made a "notorious speech" in 2007
in 2014 Russia invaded and annexed Ukrainian Crimea. This is precisely the Ukrainian point of view. How did Russia invade when their military was already there by agreement? How did Russia annex Crimea when there was a 3 point political process: 1. Crimeans voted to leave Ukraine. 2. Crimeans voted to seek join Russia. 3. Russia accepted Crimea. Contrast with this how Israel used the military and simply took the Golan Heights. THIS is annexation. There is no voting or consent in annexation.
" Ukraine is valiantly fighting against the worst enemy our civilization has seen since Hitler and Stalin." But at the same time Ukraine sends missiles and soldiers to kill Ukrainians in Ukrainian cities. How does that war crime have anything to do with Russia?
