I think it's intellectually irresponsible to separate the act of sexual intercourse from the POTENTIAL outcome of bearing children. It's not always the end result, but to act surprised when it is the end result is ridiculous.
Sex can be an enjoyable activity. Wanting to have sex without becoming pregnant is reasonable. Expecting natural processes to stop because they are inconvenient or unwanted is also ridiculous.
But they are. They always have been, and they always will be. Pregnancy is a natural consequence of sexual intercourse. To think that it isn't, or to think that "it's a case of getting to where sex and pregnancy are not linked" is mental gymnastics.

It's not a case of expecting...it's a case of getting to where sex and pregnancy are not linked...
