We spend a lot of time here dissing the freemasons. Perhaps they knew a thing or two after all?
Imagine: There you are over a thousand years ago and someone important wants a stone building erecting somewhere in Europe. Who do they ask? They get to know all the important people and know what secret passages they are having installed in their new castle complex.
If you think of the term Freemason think of what it means, break it down - “free” “mason” or masonry. I’ve also heard this about “founding” fathers - what exactly did they find? Why were the buildings (masonry) free?
I don't know but I suspect, given the time of their origin, that "free" has more to do with "freeman" than buildings for nothing.
