Why would they want to hide giants? Because it would dispel their religion of science, specifically Darwinism. What sense would evolution make if giants were a known factor? Likewise, I've heard of dwarf-ish people, people with no heads but a face in their chest, and people with one leg and a huge foot. Any of these peoples existing would completely ruin the narrative they've built about our origins.
