Our mom used to school us after she got home from work in the afternoons. Then she got a different job and switched to the laundry overnight so she could teach in the mornings. When she finished nursing school she worked three days of the week and we had school on four days instead of five. When she was not home we did the chores and read. Independent study is a big part of homeschooling. Homeschool teaches values of work and independent effort besides the usual lessons that are perverted in public school.

So often there is a way, but it is very hard. It is not a way with a new cellphone or big house. But kids are worth all our sacrifice.
