Looks to me like CNN was covering its tracks in this article.
Also, it's possible CNN and NBC coordinated this coverage on purpose, so they could then say anybody spreading this information is cuckoo for cocoa puffs.
Bottom line, NBC and CNN conducted live interviews of different people claiming to be the father. These networks are guilty of not doing their due diligence, at the very least.

Given the "situation" I would give the benefit of the doubt to the "parents" rather then judge on a possible misquote.
