My wife was talking to an accountant, and casually remarked that the IRS was really slow, as we had not yet received our tax check for 2020. The accountant said that they (the IRS) shredded hundreds of thousands of returns, preferring to work with digital returns only. Has anybody else not heard back from the IRS for 2020? Theoretically, if they shredded my return, then could then cite me for failure to pay, although I have photographs of all forms and mail receipts.

My mother is 88 and living in a senior home. Our same CPA has been doing our taxes for 40+ years. This year I get a letter stating my Mom needs to be verified. Seems our initial electronic filed tax return was not accepted until she was verified. Now to get Mom verified took literally weeks with me going back and forth to the home and jumping through there hoops. Mom cant hear well and is barely functioning. Now were getting close to April 15th deadline so my CPA sends me another complete tax return forms to send in by snail mail to make sure I have everything in on time. Sent those in the beginning of April and still they dont acknowledge they received her forms but I have my certified return receipt as proof. The IRS is totally screwed up and needs to be abolished!
