Been awhile since I looked up all the numbers, but it went something like this a few years ago (and was roughly consistent year after year):
30,000 deaths each year by firearm
20,000 of those deaths by suicide (not murder), which is sad but not a crime
10,000 firearm deaths by murder
7,000 of those are in the 10 largest cities, mostly in the inner city, and mostly committed by black criminals
3,000 firearm murders outside of the gang warfare territories
3,000,000 people defended by firearms against people who would wish to do harm (which by the way, almost none are from the inner cities, since those people tend not to report such events)
As many as 200,000 women use a gun every year to defend themselves against sexual abuse
Interesting statistic. Consider this, as well, going from memory but pretty close:
Number of white women attacked by black men each year: 30,000
Number of black women attacked by white men each year: 0 (FBI officially says it is "under 10 per year," but since they won't publish the exact number, we can surmize it is 0).
Number of women (does not say white, black, or something else) who defend themselves from attackers (does not say white, black, or something else) each year, using a firearm: 200,000
I heard a story about a woman who was beheaded by her ex-boyfriend, because she was going to testify against him in a criminal case. It probably would have turned out better for her if she had a gun.
If you've ever read American rifleman, or any of those free mags from NRA memberships, they have a full page every month, called the armed citizen (or some such). It's anywhere from 4 - 8 reports of people across the US who used a gun to defend themselves or others. Each story has a citation from the local paper or article that ran the story.

Thanks for sharing. WE NEED TO SPREAD THE TRUTH. We need to counter the anti-gun lot with the real truth.
