More likely the backlash and noncompliance out of the gate made them realize it would only make them look worse if they pursued it.

People are already calling for the noose and firing squads for msm and politicians, only way to survive is to bow out as graceful as they can.

Graceful as a one legged man at a butt kicking contest. Can't stay on his feet yet still doesn't get the job done.
