Yeah apparently several times over a long period and not once, even after the first time came to the conclusion that he shouldn’t be having sex with 14 yr olds and that he is wrong and could face serious prison time. The girl texted him back, telling him she had thrown away the test in an outdoor garbage can at her home. The test was just one of several the girl took to confirm the pregnancy.
After she first told him about the first positive test, a deputy said Scott asked the girl when she had taken the test.
“Last night,” the girl texted back.
“Are you going to tell your Mom?” Scott asked.
When the girl said she would and that “it really doesn’t matter,” Scott promptly reacted.

Also, he wouldn't be facing 85 years if he hadn't went on the run and faked his own death. It would likely have been a 20 year sentence at most, and that's only if it went to trial and he was found guilty.
With some of that $45,000, he could have instead hired a sex crime defense lawyer. There's a good chance the court would have accepted a plea agreement if Jacob Blair Scott had admitted his guilt and given him a lesser sentence. He would likely have had to register as a sex offender due to the victim's age, but may have served as little as 2-5 years or avoided prison completely, based on how good his lawyer was.
