I have a vacuum packer and I like it. You can can on you electric glass top stove. Many things you preserve can be water bathed. Start by getting a good canning/preserving book. You can also open kettle can some things like tomato products. Get a ph tester to do so. Then you put the hot product in sterilized jars with lids and rings. I do some things in my pressure canner. I believe you can control the heat on your electric stove to do so.
