Amish communities do have some good qualities, but they also have plenty of issues. They are very controlled within their own communities to the point where they will shun and reject their own children if the children don't believe and practice as they do when they grow up. They keep their children under-educated and thereby cripple their ability to thrive in the wider world, making it very hard for them to leave. There is a lot of domestic violence and child sexual abuse, including incestuous abuse. They teach young girls that their carelessness was to blame. Maybe they walked around the house not covered up enough. Reporting a rape to the police is often considered worse than raping someone.
Some also have issues with animal cruelty. There is a Belgian Draft Horse rescue that buys auction lots of BDHs in remarkably poor condition from Plain Folk sellers.
Although I'm sure they have their issues, I've been thinking they are on a smarter path than the rest of us for decades.

Yeah I've heard about some of that, but our world is full of that shit too... so out of the frying pan into the fire?
