The oil in America isn't refined into gasoline. Our oil is of a superior quality than our Middle Eastern counterparts. We sell our oil and buy lower quality foreign oil to be refined into gas.

Not saying ours couldn't be refined into gas but it would be a waste. Kind of like the difference between bituminous and anthracite coal. Both can be burned to produce energy but one is far superior to the other.
