My theory is that the only reason the elites allowed citizens in western countries to be rich for a few decades was to prime them for mass immigration for the purpose of gaining eternal political power. People with plentiful feel much less resentful over newcomers than those already living in poverty, which explains why Eastern Europe has resisted this trend. Now that the west is multiculturalized the elites are clamping down for the next stage.
