I hope he realizes that a "signal" like that would not arrive over the "entire universe" until long after the originating "civilization" has disappeared.

A message to the universe is a stupid idea. First, there's probably no one out there. Second, you don't want to let "them" know we're here until we're ready to go out and kick ass.
