Reduced diversity is very intentional. You need to keep weeds and stray crops out of your fields. You need to select specific varieties for the best traits and get rid of the others.

The amazing thing is I've seen lots of lefties arguing that the cows should be replaced with crops because cows emit too much nitrogen on the land, not realizing what's in the fertilizer to make crops grow. Nitrogen, lots of it.
