When was God taken out of the Pledge of allegiance?

I was listening to the VA guy do the Pledge of Allegiance in Illinois Trump rally, I didn't recognize it. I was doing the pledge in grade school in the 70's.

It wasn’t (even though challenged).

Oddly enough it was added in 1954. Not an original part.
