Who was Jane "Roe"?

Have there been any digs on her? What do we really know about her? The quotes around the surname make me think attention is being focused there for a reason. Who was she really? Family name(s)?

I've heard that Jane Roe was not her real name, and that she was recruited to be the plaintiff for that case.
