It's not common vernacular to someone who is trained. Professionals who have weapons training, as Phil presumably had, wouldn't call a magazine a clip. They are functionally different and a Walther doesn't use a clip.

He's not walking around some military facility, as an engineer, armed with a personal weapon. If he had any weapon, it would've been a service-issue weapon and don't believe the U.S. ever issued Walthers.
