What can i turn on so that i don't miss out? Anyone i can follow that pretty much sticks to noteworthy news?

You could try getting telegram and finding a channel there that only posts bigger happenings. I think one good one is the 911 news channel, they have Twitter, telegram etc. And don't spam post you with irrelevant things. But have a look around, Im sure there's something you find suitable.
