I was listening to Viva Frei & Robert Barnes' Rumble show (Canadian and American lawyers - Barnes has a big case against Pfizer going on right now), and Barnes said that even though abortion in Canada is legal until after the baby exits the body - because there is no law, nothing at all relating to abortion in Canada - doctors don't actually perform it after 23 weeks and 6 days and I couldn't believe that there are women out there asking for abortions at 6 months (less one day) pregnant. There is absolutely no good reason for this. It's so horrible and evil and I don't know how those doctors (and women) sleep at night.
There's no law in Canada because the law legalizing it was struck down, specifically the government set criteria was struck down for violating constitutional right to security of the person. The section criminalizing health care providers from doing it outside of those parameters was not explicitly struck down.
So beyond 24 weeks there's no medical reason if the mother and child are healthy, which could lead to the doctors being criminally prosecuted.
Thanks for clarifying. Interesting that the doctors can be criminally prosecuted after 24 weeks- so the law was struck down for government set criteria, but not for criminalizing health care workers providing abortions after 24 weeks. So 24 works is when the Canadian gov has determined life begins, I guess. I think most Canadians have no idea what the law is, including myself up until the Robert Barnes/Viva Frei podcast, and then it was incomplete.
However, I have witnessed the Right to Life marches from my office window and they are absolutely massive - and filled with so many young people! - so there are a lot of people in Canada that obviously do know the law and want changes. It's by far the largest of all of the protests I've witnessed, except maybe the truckers but that's hard to judge due to difference in the way they protested.
