As I recall it, the only thing holding Yugoslavia together was Tito's iron fist. He was the "least worst" communist leader and certainly no better than he should have been. https://www.britannica.com/biography/Josip-Broz-Tito/Partisan-leader These countries always had their conflicts and the whole thing started to unravel as soon as he died.
