According to Wikipedia (lol) GW stands for either Greg Whitten the developer (plausible!), Gates-Whitten (developed at MS and Gates being Gates tossed his name on it) or "Gee-Whiz" (nahhh).
Point is growing up we were always taught it stood for George Washington. I'd completely forgotten about this until this post.
When I was a programmer, all we had were ones and zeros. And we felt darn lucky to have that.
