It wasn't a standard shotgun, it was an improvised hand-made thing, so the ballistics cannot be compared to a manufactured shotgun. Might have been low-velocity shrapnel cobbled together from shards of glass, or metal, or even rocks... who knows. If you look at the weapon used, I'm amazed that it fired at all.
