Like with any farming, it depends how you do it. I live in a farming area and there's a number of organic farms that produce quite well. If you just go "let's not use petro-chemical fertilizer" and think that's organic, you're going to have a bad time. The key to organic farming is to look after the soil. If you're not willing or capable of learning to do it properly, better stick to the modern farm standards.
