Merkel was not attempting any sort of "power stance." Watch the video of this event.
The hog is propping herself up on the table, and hanging her head down to read some papers (about immigration) on the table. This snap shot was her briefly picking her head up to say something, and the MSM spun this to be some kind of "power stance."

If fact, Trump is one putting her in her place during this event by having her read those papers- papers that show negative statistics regarding immigrants. Trump even mocks Merkel here by making an amusing comment to Abe saying (paraphrased quote): "You hear that Shinzo, immigrants are good for an economy. I've got 21 million of them I can give you,"
