I read an article a little while back that Joe's first wife and mother to his children was distraught when she put the kids in the car and drove off that day after finding out he was having an affair. The article said that she actually veered into the path of an oncoming vehicle. She and their baby girl were killed. The two boys were in the back seat. Don't know how true it was because I didn't verify it, but it does fit in with this story.
