It might be related to this post from some site called Center for Food Safety from six years ago that links to a now-missing .pdf from Mars abut how they were on a five year plan to phase out TiO2, linked in the above article.
The same news article also links to post by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service detailing that the EU has been forcing companies to remove TiO2 from their food starting back in February of this year.
I'm not saying the EU is the be-all end-all of things, but hey, more DNA-damaging chemicals just for those people that didn't get the clot shot, amirite?

Unrelated but, there IS a recall on Skittles gummies (and Starbust gummies, and Life Savers gummioes) right now, due to metal shavings in them.
When I was looking for the link to that specific recall (I originally saw a notice when I was out grocery shopping) I came across several articles from over the weekend about a pending lawsuit against the candy company Mars over titanium dioxide.

And another: "Prof Maged Younes, Chair of EFSA’s expert Panel on Food Additives and Flavourings (FAF), said: “Taking into account all available scientific studies and data, the Panel concluded that titanium dioxide can no longer be considered safe as a food additive. A critical element in reaching this conclusion is that we could not exclude genotoxicity concerns after consumption of titanium dioxide particles."
