What do you think of my theory that what we previously knew as "hipsters" is one of the closest psychological matches to the current woke?
They embrace the Current Thing in the same way hipsters have no real taste except what's trendy. The same way woke journos write their articles is what hipster sites like Pitchfork have been doing for a while.
Not every far leftist is a hipster, but every hipster is a far leftist.
Every hipster I've ever met has been "woke", but they only identify with the far-left because they think it's...well...."hip" and don't really necessarily understand or embrace the far-left ideology.
I was into metal when I was younger and knew a lot of people who people would have called "emo" or scene kids or whatever, which was kind of the precursor to hipster and yeah, I'd definitely agree.
That said, back in that pre-2010 era it was more about the music than anything. Once the music became cool, it attracted a bunch of follower type people who just get into the image. Once the metal thing passed, they turned into hipsters and now woke activists, because they really do just follow the trends.

When I think hipster I think "pees sitting down" so they can use two hands to curl their mustache
