🧐 Research Wanted 🤔
I am trying to research the local candidates for school board, county commissioner, and county court judge for the August primary. I'm new to my county here in Florida, and want to do my due diligence before I make my picks.
Ballotopedia does a good job on a state & national level, but smaller municipalities are not in their purview. Any recommendations from my frens on where to look would be greatly appreciated.
Call the candidates and request a face-to-face meeting. I've done this and never been turned down. One candidate told me I'm the only person who ever did this. Be respectful, but ask hard questions. Don't let them dance around direct questions and answers.
There is a website that rates candidates/conservatives https://ivoterguide.com/
Go to your counties election website. Locate a sample ballot, see who's running and do a search for each candidate. This worked for me in Pinellas County. https://www.votepinellas.com/
Don't forget the local library. Some may still have clipping files or indexing of the local newspapers.
I found local info on my county's website.
Thanks, great leads frens. I found the school board people on fakebook (I know I know). One messaged me back on a tax hike millage proposal. He claimed in a post that it was NOT an increase.
I quoted the language from the actual ballot asking what did I miss when it said, levy a 0.5265 mills for school security. He was taken by surprise, stated there was supposed to be 2 proposals, one was a continuance of current rates, one was the increase. But they lumped them together on the ballot.
For the record, I would have voted NO on both. School taxes are out of control and there's very little to no accountability for spending it. Then they whine about poor pay for teachers - well stop wasting it on meaningless stuff and pay the teachers!
