The child looks old enough to be embarrassed by the garb, but maybe can't fight back? When I was about that age my mom and I had daily battles regarding head gear in the winter. I hated wearing hats and she'd jam them on my head as I left the house. To be fair it was usually well below freezing, but I still rebelled.
