This is the "big tent" philosophy in action: Republicans are very homogenous in their ideology (Christianity, Patriotism, Freedom), but Democrats have a lot of shades of gray -- like, there's the radical ACAB crew who wants to totally defund the police, and there's the more moderate crew who wants reform police, not defund, to better serve the communities.
But that's a consequence of the big tent philosophy that Democrats have been applying for years: bring together different ideologies and find common ground, to increase our voting numbers. It makes for some shaky alliances, but it's worked in the past.
Republicans don't really have to do this, because Republican ideology is more centered: the Bible, the flag, and currently Trump. Anything that deviates from that focus (or goes against Trump) is rejected.
So that's what's up -- it's not necessarily a double standard; it's just a lot of sorta-contradictory political philosophies being gathered under the Dem tent.
I can accept that from your average voter but the legacy media personalities and Dem party leadership definitely expouses these types of contradictions.
