The reason my parents think carrying "a couple thousand dollars in cash under the mattress just in case of an EmErGeNcY!" Is a good idea is because the fucking news told them to do it. To make them feel like they're "stickin it to the man". They're "IOUs" that are being hidden FOR the banks. It's like...what the fuck? It's all made up bullshit.
