Iirc years back I remember one UK hospital had rigged their crematory to produce power or heat for the hospital as a side benefit of getting rid of bodies.
People had a shit fit when they found out the hospital was literally being heated with aborted babies and other med waste. Far as I know they still do it.
I didn't think it worked that way. Cremation requires a lot of fuel. I suppose the heat being exhausted could be reclaimed to run a steam generator though.
I think that is what it was. Waste heat was used with steam to either heat or power something. Bc you're right, cremation is a very fuel intensive process
