Polio vaccine was put on the sugar cubes. My parents were just talking about it the other night around the dinner table. They are in their upper eighties. My dad had polio as a young child. He fully recovered but his limp returned in his sixties. He was fortunate his case was mild. He had friends he lost to polio. He said he would never forget his friend that was put in the iron lung. He said it was horrible. The kid was paralyzed and had to stay in it to live. Once you were put in there you never come out.
