When I was a kid if I heard an ambulance I would run to the road to see where it was going, that would happen a couple times per week. Now I hear ambulances 5 times a day in my small city.
Many years ago, I was in the fire service in the local township, as a paid on call firefighter. Back then, it was quite popular to get your feet wet at the township, then test for a larger city (that's where the action is). These days, there is more than enough action locally.
