I don't think any of us know for 100% certainty, but the pain has to get to the point where the overwhelming majority of people wake up. It has been too good for too long where people were deep in the "matrix". It is going to take a lot more pain to get most people awake. If the white hats don't win, then there will be a bloody civil war and the pain will touch everyone everywhere. Uncontrolled chaos and destruction is what is trying to be avoided.
