Starting and running a business did that for me. It would cure almost every leftist of communism but that's part of why they disallow and discourage that.

Believe me that’s an agreeable truth! Try being a General Contractor in California. It’s nothing but fees and taxes, backed up by onerous regulations and useless paperwork. If you’re not big enough you’ll go bankrupt playing by the rules, most never play by the complete rules.
