I'm a former liberal. At what point did YOU know you were done with the left?

I'm gay. I knew I was done with the left when I noticed the religion I abandoned treated me with MORE RESPECT than any of my so-called -tolerant- friends ever would even AFTER I came out as both atheist and gay.
They obviously did not support me in those decisions. But they never stopped supporting me in other ways. They still brought my family food when they were sick. They still brought me to lunch to talk about my life and theirs and just like good man to man conversations about things we agreed OR disagreed on. They CARED about my well-being even though they did not care for my decisions. And made sure to tell me in terms that were ... HUMAN not just "fuck you you sinner fuck off" .. they never abandoned me even though from my perspective at the time, they had every reason too.
And even when we were talking about my fallen faith, they were POLITE and they prayed that no matter my path I would find a way to do good in the world.
They brought me back to God.
I don't think I would've found my way back if not for their patience and care - even for people like myself they believed were going to hell. They believed I had hope and their hope saved my life.
My liberal "friends" just cut me off immediately and started calling me names behind my back the second they found out I didn't think whatever they think in the exact way they think it in.
