If the Dems lose a Senator before Jan 3 the Republicans will be in the majority. Kamala's vote would also be mostly gone because the VP can only vote to break a tie. Grassley should be the President pro tempore then. It has been tradition to make the most senior senator of the majority party the PPT since 1949. I'm sure the Dems would put up a fight but they would lose that one.
More importantly, Schumer would no longer be majority leader. Hopefully the Republicans vote someone other than the Turtle (or Conyers, Thune, or Scott) to take over this time. It's tricky because we need someone with experience, and with good fundraising skills. Unfortunately right now that lies mostly with the RINOs. I'd just like to see someone who won't give every bit of leverage away for the sake of fake bipartisanship.
