Not 7.62x39mm. Rather 7.62x51mm. It's not exactly the same as .308 Winchester, the tolerances are slightly different but a .308 round will fit a 7.62 chamber. The reverse isn't always true.

Yep. You are right. 7.62 x 39 is the Soviet round.
