You don't have to turn in your guns, Americans. But you should exchange them for safer versions.

for the five people who don't get the joke...
5.56 NATO is a smaller round with a weaker powder charge that the .308 caliber round used in older military rifles...
My understanding is the 5.56 is basically a plinking round, while the .308 is a nail-driver...
You're mostly right. 5.56 has been the main nato round for decades and that probably won't change soon. It's surprisingly effective with the right round and you can carry lots of it for the weight. 308 is the go to full house round for snipers and medium machine guns.
yeah, I really need to stop pulling an AOC and research stuff before I shoot my mouth off, lmao.
5.56x45mm NATO is absolutely NOT basically a plinking round.
Rittenhouse turned two commies into good commies, and another into a one-armed wonder, with a 5.56mm.
Numerous militaries have created a lot of corpses using 5.56mm.
I prefer my 7.62/.30 cal AR's, but I wouldn't feel under-armed with a 5.56 (and I've got enough of those to prove it).
my mistake, lol.
my point is .308 is a leeetle more powerful, lmao.
.308 turns cover into concealment. Concrete walls and dense brush won't work to stop the heavier, faster round. Both will do the trick in open terrain with no obstruction.
...guess it's a good thing they didn't use .308 against the killdozer, then...lol
(he had two layers of steel plates with concrete sandwiched in between for armor)
I like 338 lapua the best. 50 cal would be nice but way too expensive
and heavy... I imagine any gun that didn't explode when you fired such a round would have to be pretty substantial...
Lapua isn't much less expensive. I've been getting it for somewhere around $5-$6 per round, versus the same round in .50 being about $7.50-$8.
I've been stocking up on some.50 cal practice/plinking ammo that's been $4 per round lately.
yeah, I'm an idiot, lol.
