I was literally just saying this to my cousin at a family party this weekend - he is far more masculine than me cos he had a father figure. I was one of the boys mentioned in the example above - single mum and all female teachers (and mostly female friends also)
No-one was there to teach me how to shave properly or style my hair or change a tyre. My father was How To videos on Youtube. And it's likely the same for a whole generation of boys too. :/
My friend… Recognizing that very much makes you a Man.. I was fortunate to have a Real man as a father.. I also actively looked for mentors who had FRUIT in their lives.. just remember none of us are ripened tomatoes.. we are always growing and changing.. there are a lot of Good Men out there that want to share that trait and what they know with those willing to listen and learn ..

Yup this is so true. Same for me even if my father is now in my life, the lack of that role model as a kid is hard to come back from.
Even if my dad came back now im 30, the damage is already done.
I hear you brother. My dad was too busy drinking to give a shit about raising me. My mom did everything. He didn't show me the way like a real father.
