It is NOT a hoax. The "chemical imbalance" is real. Many people have been helped greatly by taking antidepressants. I'm not saying they are perfect. I'm not saying they haven't hurt people. I've seen both sides. I have a close relative who committed suicide soon after starting on antidepressants. I have a closer relative who struggled with "clinical depression" her whole life until getting on an antidepressant and she is a totally different and healthy person now. I myself developed crushing and debilitating anxiety. I took antidepressants for over a year. The anxiety cleared up. Under a doctors care I tried to get off the antidepressants but the anxiety returned. I'm currently still on the antidepressant and I'm doing well. I still hope to one day get off this drug.
Don't make blanket statements you think covers everyone under every circumstance. "Clinical depression is caused by an inability to cope with reality. Period. Poor child rearing, victimized kids, godlessness, broken homes and society." What a foolish thing to say. Could these things cause depression? of course. But to generalize this is the cause for everyone is ridiculous.
Show me the lab-test that determines which of the 200-600 brain chemicals and how each are imbalanced. Oh wait, it doesn't exist and they lied just to have a "sounds good" sales pitch.
Quite a few degenerates in high school used to subtle-brag about having a chemical imbalance and which meds they've been prescribed. It sounded cool to them.
