'The Ministry for the Future' by Kim Stanley Robinson touches on this. I recommend everyone read it. I knocked it out in 2 days after I heard that Obama was quoted saying it was his favorite book of 2020. Figured it would have clues. It did. Carbon capture, farming, coins, yada yada yada.
