While the US govt. did lie to the world about weapons of mass destruction to gain support for taking out Saddam, Saddam had previously (and repeatedly) violated the terms of the peace deal that allowed him to remain in power. He should have been eliminated years prior to the second invasion (which was actually the third time US forces were activated to deal with him); he fucked around, and found out.
